Our Last Day in New Mexico

This campground was dirty dirty dirty!

As I type this we are on our way to the Grand Canyon. Did you know that it costs $25 PER VEHICLE to go into the Grand Canyon?? That’s crazy to me. Yesterday we visited the Petrified Forest and they charged $10 to get in! What they do to make it look cheaper is tell you that your ticket is good for 7 days. Yeah right, I couldn’t spend 7 hours at the petrified forest, let alone 7 days.

Stopped for some Photos
We are STILL in New Mexico. We can’t seem to escape this place!! Honestly, there’s so much to do and see that we keep pulling over and end up not doing too much driving.

CM and I had dreamed about life on the road. Just picking up and going to see new places at a moments notice. Well, we’ve officially been RVing for over two weeks now, and we realize that a life on the road isn’t as sweet as we initially thought it would be.

Our Trip to White Sands, New Mexico

Yesterday we went to the White Sands National Monument. I had hoped to go early in the morning before it hit 100˚, but CM had read that it is best at night. So we ended up entering the park at around 7pm and we stayed until 10pm. Last night was perfect and I’m sure I will never forget it.

1997 Called, They Want Their Internet Speed Back

I’ve been meaning to write a post about this subject for a while now. The day CM told me we were taking the cable modem back, I freaked out! I hadn’t made any arrangements for Internet access, so I was worried I was going to have to go without for a couple of days. CM was very sweet and told me he would take me to get a mobile broadband card for my computer as soon as we closed our cable account. Little did I know what was in store….

No post for a few days. Sorry it has just been really busy. So here is a long update.

We went to the lower ninth ward and then on to the French quarter while in New Orleans. There was a very stark contrast between the two areas. I am sure this has been true throughout most of New Orleans history, but today it is extreme. (more…)

Another Long Day

I didn’t get to make a post last night. By the time we finally pulled over for the night CM and I were both exhausted. We parked at a truck stop and had to open the windows for air. It was hellacious!! All of us were pretty much sweating in our sleep until around 3am. Then it began to cool off for a couple of hours. When we pulled out at 8:30 it was already 91 degrees!

Maybe boondocking (camping without electricity) isn’t as awesome as I originally thought it was. It was a long night and it made today more difficult. After leaving the truck stop we drove to Dallas to have dinner with CM’s family. It was short notice but everyone came to his dad’s house and they made a big dinner for us.

Tomorrow we are heading for White Sands, New Mexico. I promise to fill you in on what I saw at New Orleans tomorrow. For now I’m going to get some rest.

Biloxi Blues

Biloxi Blues

Today was a crazy day. We started off thinking we were heading to Texas and we ended up stranded at a gas station begging strangers for help. In the end, it all worked out. CM wasn’t taken as a sex slave and we got gas for the RV

A lot of times I feel like CM’s being homeless when he was younger has made our marriage more difficult. However, today wasn’t one of those times. I was ready to shell out $40 plus insurance to rent a car, but he was more enterprising. He just walked up to strangers and asked for help. It freaked me out, but I guess he had done that so many times before when he was homeless. You never know what somebody has been through just by looking at them.

It’s days like this that I really start to think about all that he must have went through when he was homeless. It made him who he is today. One of the things that I really love about him is that he helps me find things that I’ve accidentally thrown in the trash. He has no problem just reaching in and looking for what I’ve lost. It doesn’t matter if it’s our trash can at home or one on the street corner. He’s crazy!

On a more serious note, even here in Mississippi we are seeing that people are still in the process of rebuilding. As we drove through the town we could see the ruins of old buildings that were lost in the hurricane. It looks this bad and it’s been almost 3 years!! I can’t imagine the destruction people faced when they walked out of their shelters right after Katrina hit.

Picture: Midget sat in the front seat next to me while we waited for CM to return with the fuel. Sometimes she just looks so serious.

Okay, We’re Idiots

Sooo… in an effort to make it to the camp ground before the office closed, I told CM to put the pedal to the metal. We kept an eye on the gas tank and we appeared to be hemorrhaging diesel. We thought we’d be okay because surely there’s a gas station that sells diesel nearby — WRONG!!!
