Who We Are

We are a husband and wife blogging team documenting our experiences as we make the transition to full-time RVing. At the time of this blog’s creation, CM and husband extraordinaire is 33 and KJ, wife of the year two times running is 27. We have been married for 6 years and we have two children, a five year old son we call Widget and a three year old daughter we call Midget. Two events helped us decide to become full-timers:

Event #1: During the six years we have been married we have moved 5 times. Each time we got a bigger place and we bought more stuff to fill it up. One day we decided to add up the value of all of our stuff, all the while thinking we had between $40k-$60k worth of stuff. We were surprised to learn that our stuff was only worth a little more than $8000! We were both crestfallen. Everything we own has to be cleaned and maintained. It requires increasingly bigger apartments to fit it all which means increasingly higher utility bills. We decided that we had had enough.

Event #2: Well, it’s not so much a singular event as much of a trend of our children becoming obsessive about the movies advertised with happy meal toys. As parents, we didn’t think that “Iron Man” should be advertised on happy meal boxes. The movie is rated PG-13 and I’m pretty sure that 13 year-olds aren’t getting happy meals. We decided that we needed to do something drastic to make sure our children learned that there is more to life than the latest movie, the latest toy, or the latest cartoon.

Our Plan For Our Lives

What started off as a search for a small RV to make weekend camping trips in ballooned into us buying a larger RV that we could live in. We found our dream RV and applied for financing. Due to the housing crisis, banks were tightening up on loans, especially loans for “luxury” items. Well, we were eventually approved for a loan that was less (I’m talking five figures less) than we needed. So we decided to sell everything in our apartment in order to make up the difference.

After we pick up our RV we plan on hitting the road hard. We want to take our kids to see all of the beautiful things nature has to offer. We want to give them a break from seeing McDonald’s/Burger King signs every 2 miles. We want to show them that experiences are more important than possessions.

Our Plan For This Blog

We hope that this blog will serve two purposes: First, documentation of our experiences and thoughts. Secondly, we want to inspire others like us to get out on the road and give RVing a try. We see statistic after statistic that the average RVer is 45+ and Caucasian. We, on the other hand, are a young multi-cultural family. In short, we hope to change the face of RVing.
