Yesterday, we were on our way to Target and we saw some boondockers in Brooklyn! I begged CM to make the block so that I could snap a few pics with my phone. I had to share this with you guys! A boondocker is basically a person that camps anywhere he can find a space instead of going to a camp site. This really got me excited because CM and I were thinking about boondocking in Brooklyn for a while also. The closest campsite to NYC is in New Jersey and the charge $65 a NIGHT!! Can you believe that? I think it’s great because you get all of the benefits of staying in the city without paying rent. Check out my pics of their RV.
They were in an older VW Westfalia. I’m guessing they were in it while I was outside taking pics because the pop-up bed on top was out. We looked at those for a while. We liked that they had an oven and sink inside. What they didn’t have was a bathroom, and we felt that was a necessity for the kids. I do, however, think this Westfalia is a great option for weekenders. I think they can sleep up to 4.
Based on our research and several calls to “311″ we learned that RV’s can be parked on city streets, just not in the same location for more than 24 hours.
What do you think about boondocking in the city?
