Today Widget asked if we were bringing our cat Gatoichi (that’s a combo gato, Spanish for cat and Zatoichi CM’s favorite kung fu character) on the trip. Without thinking I blurted out, “No way!” and he instantly broke out in tears. He was sobbing and said, “But I love him Mommy.” Once again, I didn’t know what to say. There’s no way we are going to have a cat in the RV. It’s too small and I don’t want to deal with cat hair everywhere. Widget didn’t see things that way.
It’s not that I did not expect him to be so sad, I didn’t think about it at all. I figured that he is young and won’t mind going anywhere. Today I learned that 5 year-olds have very strong opinions about where they live.
I asked him what he thinks he will enjoy doing in the RV and he told me “drawing”. So I’m going to make sure that he has all of his art supplies as well as a special place in the RV to display his art work. CM questioned my decision to write about this topic two times in a row, but I hope it serves as reminder to not overlook him and his needs.
